Ani Defranco~ Still Folking it up

When I stumbled across this I thought, Oh that is what a tattoo is going to look like in a few years... LOL... then I realized she is like 5 years older then me. SIGH. She still has her music going and I think she has come a long way from her first album.

Never heard of her.

I don't think many tattoos age well, but that is just my opinion. Clearly the people who get them disagree. :-)

I have one. On my back side.

Ani Defranco is a feminist folk singer that has been scorned by both lesbian and hetrosexual lovers. She is really funny. Her lyrics are awsome but the instrumental leaves a lot to be desiered.

That's a fair description of DiFranco, dear. Although Robert Christgau gets her pretty good, too:

Although her girlcult loves her madly, the guys I know smell trouble every time she opens her mouth. This has nothing to do with her face, body, or sense of style. It's her words, the sheer volume of them, jetting out in expressionistic torrents as if she feels free to say any goddamn thing that comes to mind. But give DiFranco the chance and she may just make you like her ancient formula for self-indulgent songpoetry. Most folkies leave me cold, and DiFranco is no exception - it's just that I'm too much of a vulgarian to appreciate her talents. She's a hell of a lyric writer, I'll give her that, but she doesn't do enough musically to catch my attention - and you need some choops to pull off the political broadsides DiFranco frequently indulges in. (Maybe she can play a bit, but she hasn't done anything to make me sit up and take notice.) Her greatest accomplishment is in setting up her own label, Righteous Babe, through which she distributes her music and makes a tidy profit. Some left-wing radicals do have a head for business.

Not familiar with her, but I guess your doc gave a fair description of what she is all about. Got to find some of her music, just because I'm curious now.

Hugs!

NOOOOOOOOOOO Renie! Don't do that!!!! She is an angry lesbian! LOL. Please don't belittle yourself to listening to her! She does have some really nice and meaningful poetry in a lot of her songs but the most likely album you will cross will be the bad one!

She does do a jam up rendition of "Amazing Grace" Try that one!

But what Doc quoted does sum it up nicely.
