Jenn- I've bought two Singer machines, brand-new, over the years. Back in 1976, I bought a Singer Athena 2000 which I loved dearly! Used it till 1998 when it started to fail and the repairman told me the motherboard was going bad. So I traded that machine on a new model -which I don't even recall the name of it but it cost me almost as much as the Athena had cost me 22 years earlier and didn't have near the functions. Fast forward only about 3 years and that second machine started to act up so I put it in the shop and while there -since I had a ton of sewing waiting -I found a reconditioned unit -about 10 years old, almost like my old Athena and bought that for $90 and I've been using it ever since then. (Lost the 2nd machine to the shop because my older daughter was supposed to pay the $45 I owed for the repairs and she never got around to picking it up! I could have had two Singers for a total expenditure then of $135 -both of them good machines all in all too!)
So anyway -look into a reconditioned model -use it as a back-up but you can often find some really nice units that have been reconditioned for a very good, reasonable price! And no, I would hate to try to do hand-sewing with a cat crawling all over and mucking up the works! I have that problem when I knit with the one cat we have here now.
I would much rather be crotching than hand sewing. I loathe hand sewing.
The machine is brand New. Doc had bought it for Mrs. S and she had never even taken it out of the box. I tried to use it a few months back but it was on sheer and it was "jamming" so I just knocked it up as the fabric. But it is still doing it on other material and ... I tried everything I know to do but I think the problem is in the bottom tension.
Doc ... please.... purty please?
I have Mandy's outfit to finish for tomorrow, and then a skirt for Thursday (for red-ribbon week) and then... Lulu's costume to put together (all 21 pieces of it), adding a piece to mandy's skrit for halloween, the sports for doc's ... and (because I am hand sewing all this crap... lol... ) if I get to it... MINE!
You do know that they sell premade costumes right?? Just Kiddin
i couldn't complain if I had bought premade, now could I?
The costumes were outragious expensive. Doc's was not big enough, Lucy's did not have a bee in her size, they had mine for $60 and the skirt was to short for Mandy's... Sooo a sewing I have gone. LOL.
I have a rottie, and she tries to help... but her paws are too big!
